The bodily form is thin, long and flat, both the head and the tail are pointed. The belly is round, the head is small, and the mouth is sharp and protruding without any cirrus. The upper mouth of the male
fish will have obvious white star during the breeding period. The mouth is in the upper position with an opening on the ends. The underjaw is longer than the dropjaw. The crack is vertical, there is a line of bottom pharynx-teeth. The body is covered with easy to fall scales with a perfect, straight siding. The ventral fin is on the belly part, and the tail is tip-shaped. The backside is silver; the belly is grayish white. There are a black, meniscus spot on the end of every scale on the body of male fish. The color of female and young fish is lighter than male. There is a long, vertical, black belt on the center of the body from the end of the mouth through the eyes to the base of the caudal fin. They are small-sized fish. The length of a ripe fish could be five to eight centimeters.
Habitual Behavior ¡G They are wisdom, fresh-water fish and they always live in the Epipelagic Division. They could be seen at the river, the pond and the ditch. They are carnivorous and they like to eat the aquatic plants, the algae, the plankton, and the aquatic insects. The ripe female fish will lay eggs on the shaft of the bamboo or on the waterweeds, and the male fish will protect the eggs from danger.
Distribution ¡G It distributes at the water areas of Dajia Stream (the trunk stream of the lower reaches, and the branch of the lower reaches, like Shijiao Stream and Shalian Stream) and Wu Stream (the branch stream of the lower reaches, Dali Stream). It's a Protozoa in Taiwan . |
