| Brief introduction |
Nan Tian Temple was initially
built with bricks with thin roof tiles at No 2, Lane 57, Laiyuan
Road, in Laiyuan Village in 1863. In the Japanese occupation,
it was renovated with wooden beams and lead roofs in a single-story
house. The main god worshipped is Heavenly Mother, also known
by the worshippers as Matsu. The Kai Chi Matsu at Nan Tian
Temple was deeply related to the Lin¡¦s in Wufeng. Lin Wen-zha
was then the Official led solders to Taiwan. By the traditions,
the Heavenly Mother was requested to accompany the troops.
After suppressing the rebellion, Matsu was temporarily placed
at the hall of Lin¡¦s Mansion. For the worshipping of the relatives
and people, Madame Dai, mother of Lin Wen-zha, built the temple
between the ¡§Lower House¡¨ and ¡§Gong Bao Di¡¨ and locate Matsu
in ¡§Zhuang Nei Gong Tin,¡¨ as called by the villagers, so that
the clans and people to worship.
In 1970, Matsu appeared in people¡¦s dreams requesting people
to solicit contributions to establish an association for construction.
However, the solicited amount was merely thousands of NT dollars,
which would not sustain highly expensive renovation construction
of the temple. Yet, after an separate committee was established
by Lao Wu Ma Club, solicitation was made separately and the
amount was finally collected to complete the Grand Temple
(Matsu Temple), followed by the completion and fire passing
for settlement of Zhong Gu Floor, Office of Management Committee,
Yu Huang Temple, Bodhisattva Kuan-yin Temple, Heavenly Mother
Temple after the kind donation everywhere. There is the ¡§Eight
Diagrams Block¡¨ delicately carved at Heavenly Mother Temple,
which will make you awe.
The main hall of Nan Tian Temple is for Matsu with Ears That
Hear with the Wind and Eyes That See A Thousand Miles on the
