The most famous historical
spot in Wufeng Tow is the Lin¡¦s Garden. Along with Lin¡¦s Garden
in Banchiao are the two major types of old mansions in Taiwan.
The Lin¡¦s Mansion in Wufeng is divided into ¡§Lower House,¡¨
¡§Upper House¡¨ and ¡§Lai Yuan.¡¨ The ¡§Lin¡¦s Garden in Wufeng¡¨
is referred to ¡§Lai Yuan,¡¨ which was the rear garden at the
Lin¡¦s in Wufeng.
According to Lin¡¦s Pedigree ¡§Family Biography of Lin Wen-qin,¡¨
after Lin Wen-qin¡¦s success as a mandarin in 1893, ¡§In admiration
of the wishes of Lai Zi to build Lai Yuan on the foot of Wufeng
with pavilions and plants in a quiet and beautiful environment.
We kept an operatic circle to entertain Madame Luo in springs
and falls.¡¨ Obviously, it was merely a place to entertain
the elders at that time. |
| Characteristics |
Lai Yuan, one of the four
Gardens in Taiwan, of the Lin¡¦s in Wufeng is in Mingtai Vocational
High School of Home Economics with 0.2619 square kilometers
square measure. It is about one kilometer from Lin Mansion
with magnificent construction in delicacy and quiet environment.
The green mountain and Jiu Jiu Mountain on the east along
with the small pond on the west composed the traditional Chinese
ease in elegance surrounded by mountains and plants. It is
known as Lai Yua Yu Ji, one of the twelve beautiful spots
in Taichung.
The construction of Lai Yuan was in coordination with the
natural garden and it is a garden seamlessly connected to
mountain and stream. The 10 natural objects in the garden
are Wu Guei Floor, Kao Pan Xuan, Xi Jia Ting, Dao Yi Jian,
Wang Yue Feng, Li Zhi Dao, Wang Mei Yan, Qian Bu Deng, Xiao
Xi Chi and Mu Mian Bridge. Also, there are still Guan Jia
Ting, Rainbow Bridge, She Gong Ci, Tie Pao Bei, Li She Two-Decade
Autograph Stele, Lin Zhu Mountain Virtue Praise Stele, Lin
Yun-qing Brass Statue and the graves of Lin¡¦s ancestors. The
layout of Lai Yuan is much different from that of Lin Yuan
in Ban Chiao. The latter is much decorated by manpower while
the former is of natural interest.
In the past years, Mingtai High School built school houses
here and not many relics are remained. This is indeed a pity. |
