| Brief introduction |
Each March in lunar calendar
is the month for the festival activities of Tour of 18-Zhuang
Matsu. It was said in the time of Dao Guan in Qing Dynasty
(around 163 years ago), serious blight occurred at the paddy
rice in Taichung, Wuri, Dali, Wufeng and Taiping which left
farmers helpless. Therefore, they requested Matsu at Han Xi
Le Cheng Gong Temple to have a tour in these areas for shelter.
On March 1st that year, a man surnamed Lin in Wuri Township
first invited Matsu for shelter and the dark clouds did gather
and finally heavy rains poured and the blight was removed.
Then, one township after another, Matsu displayed the deity
power and removed the blight wherever she went and plentiful
harvest returned to these townships again. In return of Matsu
protection, it was determined to invite Matsu to have a tour
between March 1st and 20th in each lunar year and people worship
very sincerely when Matsu passes by. This activity continued
until today without stop.
