 The development of the Lacquer Crafts is deep and far from Japanese Occupation. Japanese used the lacquerwares and treated the lacquer crafts as a traditions, so they planted lacquer trees widely which promotes the vigorous development of lacquerwars manufacturing industries. More than 90 percents of Lacquer factories are located at Taichung County , and most of them are centralized around Fengyuan. As a result, Lacquer Crafts is a local traditional handicraftly.
The vigorous period in developing the lacquer carfts remained from Japanese Occupation to 1986. Most of the products, such as bowls, plates and dishes, were exported to Japan . Recently, because the workage promoted by the wide margin and the production of the lacquerware required much time, local industries have to move their factories to Mainland China and the nations in Southeast Asia. The grand occasion of the lacquerwares in Fengyuan was no longer existed; but the lacquer crafts are striding forward to the ˇ§Art Creationˇ¨ by the driving of the government and the efforts of the proprietors. The government cooperated with the Crafts and Design department of Tunghai University to give a new life to the design. Furthermore, the Lacquer Craft Hall has been established.
