The Museum of Weaving Handicraft is located at Taichung County Culture Center . It is to maintain, continue and develop local weaving handicraft, and it is also an important stronghold to research, exhibit and to popularize the weaving handicraft in Taiwan .
The most famous weaving handicraft in Taichung County is ¡§Ruch mats and hats¡¨. The ruch mats of Dajia are the best tributes to the Emperor in the end of Ching Dynasty. During the Japanese Occupation and the Restoration of Taiwan, Dajia hats and mats still sold all over the world and made Taiwan was ever famed ¡§ Weaving Kingdom ¡¨. This reputation speeds up the industrialisation and sophistication of weaving handicrafts.
Except for Dajia, there are some excellent weaving handicrafts in Middle Taiwan, such as the agriculture and fishery tools of bamboo weaving in Dongshi and the weaving handicrafts of Atayal Tribe in Heping. The dye and weaving of the ramie in Atayal Tribe is very distinguishing. The weaving handicrafts of Atayal Tribe and the ruch weaving in Dajia are the two traditional cultures for local weaving handicrafts.
There are seven exhibition areas in the museum: the Weaving, the Dye, the Embroidering, the Winding, the Ruch Weaving , Dajia Hats and Reading Room. All the works are excellent, some of them are from famous master workers; some are refined works of the ancestors. All the works are wonderful workmanship excelling nature. There are kinds of books concerning about the weaving handicrafts all over the world for people to read and utilize. The weaving classroom will offer some classes for learning the skill of different weaving handicrafts either on weekends or on summer and winter vacations periodically.
This museum will hold special exhibition every three months to exhibit different subjects and exchange the technology with international great master or organization. At the same time, the museum will demonstrate the weaving skill, people could DIY to enjoy the pleasure of weaving. Besides, there was a nation-wide ¡§Reward of Weaving Handicraft¡¨ established in1995 to encourage people to create the weaving and expect to enhance and glorify the weaving handicraft and to puch forward it to another boundary. |
