Location

It's located at the core of Taichung county and the county government center, which is barriered by central mountains, and vicinal to Ton-Seo town, Shi-Kon, Shin-Seo, western adjoins Shan-Kon country, southern neighbors with Tan-Gi country, northern confined by Ta-Kai river and faces to Ho-Li county cross the river, climate is tender and comfortable.

Local history

The area near to Phon-Yan city still stayed primitive landscape during Kan-Si age; agrestal spread over ground and pine trees with macrocarpa blooming, “Tai-Yia-er-Taun” call by ancestors means a forest of pine trees and macrocarpa. Who said that “Fu-Lu-Ton” is accordance in the pronunciation of indigene “Tai-Yia-er-Taun”, or based on our city “Taun-Kiao” and Sia-Nan, pit has three tump, shaped as bottle gourd, all mentioned above is the reason why the city's name came from. At Kan-Si thirsty-two (AC 1684), one admiralty house and three counties were installed in Taiwan , and our city belonged to Gu-Lao county.

Chi Dynasty Uan-Chon 11 (AC 1733), Da-Gin Chan began to develop the earth utilities and open water ditches, from then on lots of immigrants were imported from Kon-Don, and our Chinese ancestors settled down here. At Kuan-Shu 12 (AC 1886) Fu-Lu-Ton installed cruise and guard yamen, that's the beginning of Phon-Yan officer assignment; then Su-Ton Shan-Pao Pao-Ga Bureau (Union Protection Bureau) was metastasized to Hoo-Lu-Taun street , hence it took the Big apple position about big community inside bund.

The officer of cruise and guard yamen, Min-Chain Lui came to visit Taiwan , due from the fertile land named it as “Fu-Chan Country”, due from the excellent water quality and beauties in Phon-Yan city named it as so called “Little Su-Tsao”. The city was changed to under Taiwan county.

For developing, Phon-Yan is part extension of An-Li-Seo (community inside bund), contemporarily, where was occupied by indigene Pin-Pu ethnic group “PaZeH” (PAZEH or PAZZEHE ） , the governorate has Fu-Lu-Ton (FULUTON), Kia-Kiao (i.e. Ki-A-Ha), Neu-La (AURAN), Eon-A (BARLAEON), Po-A-Ly （ POALY or ABOUAN POALY ） and etc, regarded Ma-su.Ton as their chief, all of them were included in “Eon-Li-Seo” (RAHO DO PURU). After conquered by Japan, original name Taiwan county was changed to Taichung county, then Pon-Yan, Tan-Gi, Da-Ya, San-Kan and Seo-Ko were coaligated as “Phon-Ya” administration county, the name of “Phon-Yan” started to be used.
